Create a Snapshot

Snapshots on Ping An Cloud, either manually or automatically crated, should be named as EBS name_year, month, date, hour, minute and second, e.g.

ROOT-9222_20180813145400. Snapshot names beginning with ROOT indicate system disks, and snapshot names beginning with other letters are data disks. This article describes how to create a snapshot.

Usage Guidelines

1.Snapshots can be created for system and data disks, but disk I/O performance will be affected during creation. To Create snapshots, avoid business peak period.

2.After a disk is released, manually created snapshots will be saved, while automatically created snapshots will be deleted or saved based on disk attributes.

3.There is a quota for manually and automatically snapshots, and a maximum of 20 snapshots can be created for a single disk. It is suggested that you delete snapshots no longer needed.

4.For multiple EBS disks that have been mounted to a single instance, it is not suggested to use LVM and other logic volumes. As snapshots can only be created for separated EBS disks, using LVM may cause data difference after using snapshots to roll back EBS.

5.Try not to create multiple snapshots with different login passwords for one data disk or one system disk. For example, if you have created four snapshots manually for a system disk, among which two snapshots use random password, one uses custom password, and one uses key pair, then to roll back a certain snapshot, there will be login problem as there are different login passwords.

6.Snapshots can only be created for an EBS disk that’s in use and to be mounted.

7.The time needed for snapshots creation depends on the volume size. When you create snapshots, wait patiently and do not repeat operation.

You will see an Operation succeeded message at the bottom of the Disk Management page. You can click Images and Snapshots > Snapshots to view the snapshot just created.
