What is EBS?

Elastic Block
Storage
(EBS)
provides highly available, highly reliable, low-cost, and customizable block storage
services for ECS, and can be used as an independent scalable disk of ECS.

EBS provides disks of varied specifications. You can select appropriate EBS disk types
according to actual scenarios, and create and manage disks through the Ping An Could
Console. Two methods of creating EBS disks are supported, that is, creating with ECS and
creating separately. Operation types and life cycles of the EBS disks created in
different ways are also different. For more information, see the operation restrictions.

In terms of stored data reliability, EBS adopts the three-copies of data mechanism. That
is, save data copies on different physical disks of different servers. That ensures
tight consistency among three copies of data, and effectively reduces the impact on
business caused by single storage device failure. Besides, EBS supports disk snapshot
and backup functions. That is, EBS can back up and restore key information to further
improve the reliability of stored data.

EBS is commonly applied to the following typical scenarios:

You can mount one or more EBS disks to the ECS as storage devices. When the capacity
is insufficient, you can continue to purchase the EBS disk or expand the capacity of
the original EBS disk.

You can mount EBS disks created separately to other cloud servers after the disks
have been unmounted, and apply them to data exchanges among different cloud servers.

You can build LVM (Logical Volume Manager) logical volumes through multiple EBS
disks. Thus, file systems can be distributed on multiple EBS disks and expanded
dynamically, and the file system spaces will no longer be limited by EBS disk
capacities.

You can build RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) through multiple EBS
disks. That is, combine multiple independent EBS disks into a disk unit (logical
unit) in different ways to obtain higher storage performance and security capability
than a single disk.
