Basic Concept

Each region of Ping An Cloud is independent from other regions. Each availability zone is independent from other availability zones. Each pod is completely independent from other pods. One region can have multiple availability zones, and one availability zone belongs to only one region. The following figure describes the relationship among a region, availability zones, and pods.

Region

A region refers to a data center that is geographically isolated from other data centers. Launching instances in different regions ensures high availability of applications and maximize stability of each region. We recommend that you select regions that are closet to target customers.

Availability Zone

An availability zone is a physical location that has independent power and network within a region. It prevents your applications from being affected by failures in other availability zones. The network latency among ECS instances is shorter within one availability zone.

High Available Domain (Pod)

Within the same data center, different pods have different infrastructures (including hosts, network devices, and power supply devices). A pod can be seen as an integrated unit that contains switches, servers, and storage devices. One pod contains a minimum of two sets of switches. Servers are connected to different switches to ensure high availability of service deployment.
